School Sample Project

This section walks through a complete SNA Toolbox project using a fictional school as the working example. Rather than describing features in isolation, each page demonstrates how a real school team would use the platform — from initial setup through to analysing networks and sharing results with school leadership.

The sample project is built around Maplewood Primary School, a fictional school used consistently across all pages in this section. All student names, survey responses, and data are illustrative and do not represent real individuals.

note

This section is a companion to the SNA User Manual. Each page links back to the relevant manual section for full technical detail, so you can follow the example and dive deeper into any feature as needed.

What This Section Covers

The School Sample Project follows the full lifecycle of a project in SNA Toolbox, covering every major system module in sequence:

  • Nodes — Define a Student node type with relevant fields and import a student cohort.
  • Surveys — Create a survey workspace, design a network nomination survey, and manage participants and invitations.
  • Networks — Run analytics on the collected data and explore the resulting network visualisations.
  • Relationships — Review the connections generated from survey responses and understand what they represent.
  • Reports — Build a report slide deck with charts, network widgets, and insight panels to share findings with school leadership.
  • Actions — Create follow-up actions for students identified through network analysis or survey rules.

Who This Section Is For

This section is written for school-based users and anyone setting up SNA Toolbox for a school context for the first time. It is particularly useful for:

  • School administrators configuring a project from scratch.
  • Wellbeing coordinators learning how to design surveys and interpret network data.
  • Teachers and year level coordinators exploring how classroom connection and engagement data is visualised.
  • School leadership understanding what reports and insights the platform can produce.

No prior experience with social network analysis is required. Each page assumes basic familiarity with navigating a web-based platform and builds on the pages that come before it.
