Networks

The Networks module enables you to visualise and analyse nodes and their relationships based on connections and associated attributes. A network is formed by linking nodes through relationships derived from survey responses or manually imported data, creating a structured representation of your data.

This module sits between data collection and reporting and acts as the analytical engine of the platform. It transforms collected data into interactive network graphs, helping you explore how nodes are connected and how information or influence flows within the system. Using this module, you can identify patterns, uncover key connections, and analyse network structures through visualisations and metrics. These insights support informed decision-making and serve as the foundation for creating reports in the Reports module.

Open a Project → Select a Panel → Click Networks

Requirements

To analyse networks, you must first have data available in the system.

  • At least one node type must be created and nodes must be populated under that node type.
  • Data must exist for nodes and their relationships. This data can be:
    • Collected through published surveys and participant responses.
    • Manually entered into the system — nodes, their attributes, and their relations.
note

Each panel within a project has a single Networks module, which consolidates all network visualisations for that panel's nodes and relationships.

Networks Module Layout

The Networks module is the main workspace for visualising, configuring, analysing, and interacting with network data. The page is divided into the following sections and tool areas.

Network View

The centre area of the page displays the network visualisation. Use this area to:

  • View nodes and relationships.
  • Explore network structures and communities.
  • Interact with the network.
  • Preview visualisation and analytics changes.
  • View filters, layouts, partitions, and interaction effects.

Network legends and interaction legends are displayed in the bottom-right corner of the page when enabled. All visualisation and network configuration changes are reflected directly in the network view.

Visualisation Configuration Tools

The left-side toolbar contains configuration tools for customising the network view:

  • Partitions — Configure and manage datasets as network partitions.
  • Views — Create and manage network views.
  • Nodes — Configure node styling and behaviour.
  • Edges — Configure edge styling and behaviour.
  • Layout — Configure node positioning and layout algorithms.
  • Filters — Filter nodes and edges within the network.
  • Interactions — Configure network interaction behaviour and selection styling.
  • Keyframes — Create presentation-style snapshots of the network.

Analytics

The Analytics section allows you to configure and run analytical models on the current network dataset and partition:

  • Analytics Configuration and Execution — Configure and run analytics models (pre-configured, Assortativity, ERGMs, ALAAM).
  • Analytics Buttons — The right-side toolbar used to access analytical results. These buttons appear only after analytics have been run at least once on the current dataset.

Action Buttons

  • Rendering Mode — Switch between 2D, 2D+, and 3D.
  • Fit Network — Re-centre the network within the page.
  • Fullscreen — Display the network view in fullscreen mode.
  • Toggle Labels — Show or hide node labels.
  • Save — Save visualisation and configuration changes.
  • Export — Export network data to Excel or as a screenshot.
  • Snapshot — Export the current network view as an image in PNG or SVG format.

Search for and select a node within the currently displayed network view. The available node list updates dynamically based on the current view, filters, partitions, and visualisation changes applied to the network. Only nodes currently visible in the network can be searched and selected.
