Interactions

The Interactions panel allows you to configure network navigation, node selection behaviour, edge highlighting, and adjacent node visibility. Use it to control how users interact with the network and how selected nodes and relationships are visually displayed.

caution

All changes made in the Interactions panel are applied to the currently selected view. Changes become visible after clicking Apply Changes. To keep changes permanently, click Save. Unsaved changes are discarded if you leave the Networks module.

Access the Interactions Panel

  1. From the left-side toolbar, click the Interactions icon — the Interactions panel opens with the following six sections:
    • Network — General network interaction settings such as pan, zoom, legends, and node dragging.
    • Selected Node — How the selected node is visually displayed.
    • Selected Node Inbound Edges — The appearance of incoming edges connected to the selected node.
    • Selected Node Outbound Edges — The appearance of outgoing edges connected to the selected node.
    • Selected Node Reciprocated Edges — The appearance of reciprocated edges connected to the selected node.
    • Adjacent Nodes — How nodes connected to the selected node are displayed.

Network Interaction Settings

Configure general interaction and navigation behaviour for the network view:

  • Allow Pan and Zoom — Allows moving the network using the primary mouse button and zooming using the scroll wheel.
  • Allow Dragging Nodes — Allows repositioning selected nodes within the network view.
  • Nodes Legend — Displays the node legend at the bottom-right of the network view.
  • Edges Legend — Displays the edge legend at the bottom-right of the network view.
  • Selection Legend — Displays the selected node interaction legend, including inbound, outbound, and reciprocated edge indicators.
  • Selected Node Panel — Displays the data panel for the currently selected node.

Selected Node Settings

Configure the visual appearance of the currently selected node:

  • Size Scale — Adjust the size of the selected node.
  • Color — Set the colour of the selected node.
  • Shadow — Enable or disable node shadow effects.
  • Border — Enable or disable the node border. When enabled, configure Border Width, Border Type, and Border Color.

Selected Node Inbound Edges Settings

Configure the visual appearance of inbound edges connected to the selected node:

  • Type — Set the edge style: solid, dashed, or dotted.
  • Width Scale — Adjust the thickness of inbound edges.
  • Color — Set the colour of inbound edges.

Selected Node Outbound Edges Settings

Configure the visual appearance of outbound edges connected to the selected node:

  • Type — Set the edge style: solid, dashed, or dotted.
  • Width Scale — Adjust the thickness of outbound edges.
  • Color — Set the colour of outbound edges.

Selected Node Reciprocated Edges Settings

Configure the visual appearance of reciprocated edges connected to the selected node:

  • Type — Set the edge style: solid, dashed, or dotted.
  • Width Scale — Adjust the thickness of reciprocated edges.
  • Color — Set the colour of reciprocated edges.

Adjacent Nodes Settings

These settings control how nodes connected to a selected node, and the edges between them, are displayed in the network:

  • Dim Disconnected Nodes — Fades nodes and edges not directly connected to the selected node, helping you focus on related nodes. Edges between adjacent nodes remain visible in a less prominent style.
  • Layers — Sets how many connection levels are displayed for the selected node:
    • Layer 1 — Nodes with a direct connection to the selected node.
    • Layer 2 — Nodes with a direct connection to Layer 1 nodes.
    • Additional layers continue expanding the visible network outward.
  • Layer-based Coloring — Applies different colours to each adjacency layer for easier visual distinction. Configure the colour used for each layer (Layer 1, Layer 2, and additional layers) when this option is enabled.
