Data Sources

Data Sources allow report widgets to access and visualise data from your project. Any widget that relies on project data, analytics, or statistics must use a data source added to the Report Workspace. Data sources are created as snapshots of the selected data at the time they are added — changes made later in the project will not automatically update existing report data sources unless they are synchronised.

Data sources can be created from:

  • Networks — currently supported.
  • Surveys (under development)
  • Files (under development)
  • Benchmarks (under development)

Requirements

Before adding a Network data source:

  • Access the Networks module within the current project and panel.
  • Ensure at least one network partition exists.
  • Save the partition manually.

Add a Data Source

  1. In the Data Sources section at the bottom-left of the workspace, click (+).
  2. In the Add Datasource dialog, select From Networks.
  3. Locate and select the required network.
  4. From the Partition dropdown, choose the partition to add.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Click Save to save the Report Workspace.

A snapshot of the selected partition is now available as a data source within the report.

View a Data Source

All added data sources are listed in the Data Sources section at the bottom-left of the workspace.

  1. Click the data source name — the Edit Data Source dialog opens.
  2. Review the selected partition, data mode, and available data.

Data sources are displayed using different Data Modes, which determine the type of information shown.

Data Modes

Node Attributes

Displays all node attributes and their values for each node within the selected partition. Examples include node ID, name, demographic information, survey responses, and imported node attributes.

Graph Attributes

Displays graph-level statistics generated from Network Analytics. Available only if analytics have been executed within the Networks module. Examples include Density, Reciprocity, Transitivity, Diameter, and Average Degree.

Calculated Node Attributes

Displays custom attributes generated from existing node data, analytics results, metadata, or other calculated attributes. Calculated attributes allow you to create additional columns and derive new values without modifying the original dataset.

Create a Calculated Node Attribute

  1. Open the data source.
  2. From Data Mode, select Calculated Node Attributes.
  3. Click + Add.
  4. Enter a unique attribute name.
  5. Enter an expression using existing node data, analytics, metadata, or other calculated attributes.
  6. Review the generated values in the preview table.
  7. Click Save Changes — a new column is added to the dataset and can be used by report widgets like any other attribute.

Expressions can reference values from the following sources:

  • data — Node attribute values.
  • meta — Node metadata.
  • analytics — Node analytics results.
  • calculated — Previously created calculated attributes.

Example:

analytics.Friendship.in_degree + analytics.Disrespect.in_degree

This expression creates a new attribute by adding the in-degree values from the Friendship and Disrespect networks for each node.

note

Multiple calculated attributes can be created within the same data source. Calculated attributes may also reference other calculated attributes by name, allowing complex calculations to be built progressively and reused across expressions. Any calculated attributes created or modified within a data source affect only that report data source and do not alter the original project data.

Node Analytics

Displays analytics values calculated for each node. Available only if analytics have been executed within the Networks module. Examples include Degree, In-Degree, Out-Degree, Clustering Coefficient, Betweenness Centrality, and other node-level network measures.

ERGM

Displays Exponential Random Graph Model (ERGM) results for each relationship type. Available only if ERGM analysis has been executed within the Networks module.

ALAAM

Displays Autologistic Actor Attribute Model (ALAAM) results for each relationship type. Available only if ALAAM analysis has been executed within the Networks module.
