Bar

The Bar Chart is used to compare values across different categories using horizontal or vertical bars. It is useful for visualising differences, trends, rankings, and distributions between groups of data. Bar Charts support single or multiple series and can display aggregated values such as averages, totals, minimums, maximums, and other calculations based on the selected data source.

There is no autosave feature for Reports. Click Save regularly while working in the Report Workspace.

Bar Chart Configuration

  1. Insert a Chart widget and click it to select it.
  2. In the Settings Panel, click the Chart tab and select Bar from the Chart Type dropdown.
  3. Click Configure Data.
  4. In the left column, configure the following sections:

Data Source Selector

  1. Data Source — Select a data source for the chart. Available items are the data sources (partitions) already added to the report.
  2. Data Type — Select the type of data to use:
    • Nodes — Node-based data such as Node Meta, Node Attributes, and Node Analytics (if analytics have been executed).
    • Graph — Graph-level analytics and metrics.
  3. Filters (optional) — Add filters to limit or refine the data:
    • Click Add Filter.
    • Field — Select a field from Node Meta, Node Attributes, or Node Analytics.
    • Operator — Select the filter operator.
    • Value — Select the filter value.
    • To delete a filter, click the delete icon on the filter row.
note

The Graph data type is only available if analytics have been executed on the selected data source.

Chart Configuration Settings

  1. X-Axis — Select the field for the chart X-axis from Node Meta, Node Attributes, or Node Analytics. See Binning Configuration below if a numerical field is selected.
  2. Series — Determines what values are displayed on the chart. To add a series:
    • Click Add Series.
    • Aggregation Method — Select the calculation method applied to the selected field.
    • Field — Select a field from Node Meta, Node Attributes, or Node Analytics.
    • Extra Options — Click Extra Options within the series row to configure:
      • Series Title — Define a custom title for the series.
      • Color — Enable to define custom colours for the series bars. You can add multiple colours to create a gradient effect across the bars. When multiple colours are added, a gradient legend is displayed and you can define custom minimum and maximum labels for the gradient range.
    • To delete a series, click the delete icon on its row.
  3. Click Apply.
note

Multiple series can be added to the same chart.

Binning Configuration

If a numerical field is selected for the X-Axis, you can enable Binning Configuration to group data into value ranges. Binning organises numerical values into intervals for better visualisation and analysis.

  • Binning Method — Select how numerical data is grouped into bins:
    • Fixed Size — Creates bins using a fixed interval size.
    • Auto (Sturges) — Automatically determines the optimal number of bins based on data size.
    • Square Root — Calculates the number of bins using the square root of the total data count.
    • Round — Groups values into rounded intervals.
    • Custom Breaks — Allows you to define custom bin ranges manually.

Depending on the selected method, additional options may appear:

  • Min Range — Minimum value range for the bins.
  • Max Range — Maximum value range for the bins.
  • Bin Size — Size of each bin interval. Applicable for Fixed Size only.
  • Custom Breaks — Custom bin break points as comma-separated values. Applicable for Custom Breaks only.

Decimal Precision

Set the number of decimal places displayed for chart values and tooltips.

Title

Configure the chart title and subtitle:

  • Title — Main title displayed on the chart.
  • Secondary Title — Optional subtitle displayed below the main title.
  • Vertical Align — Vertical position of the title.
  • Horizontal Align — Horizontal position of the title.
  • Font — Title font family.
  • Font Size — Title text size.
  • Font Weight — Title thickness/style.
  • Color — Title text colour.

Legend

Configure the chart legend appearance and position:

  • Vertical Align — Vertical position of the legend.
  • Font — Legend font family.
  • Font Size — Legend text size.
  • Font Weight — Legend text thickness/style.
  • Color — Legend text colour.
  • Symbol Size — Size of legend symbols/icons.

X-Axis

Configure the horizontal axis:

  • Axis Name — Label/title for the X-axis.
  • Font — Axis label font family.
  • Font Size — Axis label text size.
  • Font Weight — Axis label thickness/style.
  • Display All Labels — Display labels for all data points on the axis.
  • Label Max Width — Maximum width for labels.
  • Overflow — How long labels are handled: Truncate (shortens), Break (wraps into multiple lines), or None.
  • Rotation — Rotate labels by a specified degree value.
  • Min / Max — Minimum and maximum axis values. Applicable only for numerical X-axis values.
  • Split Lines — Grid/split lines displayed across the chart:
    • Size — Split line thickness.
    • Type — Split line style.
    • Custom Color — Enable and select a custom split line colour.
